verushka70: Kowalski puts his hands to his head (Billy's hand on Joe)

I meant to get these in on time for the [livejournal.com profile] ds_snippets amnesty challenge, but for reasons that don't need exploring at this juncture, that didn't happen. So... bummer. So... they're here instead. Made possible by [livejournal.com profile] akamine_chan, who graciously beta-ed.

Diefenbaker knows the closer they are to the water, the steadier and cooler the breeze is -- a relief in summer, when concrete holds heat. He grumbles, pouts, whines the tiniest bit. Eventually, Fraser gives in. They go down to the lake. There Fraser's twitches and tics slow; he breathes deeper, grows minutely taller, relaxes.

They once walked almost to Evanston together, in Indian summer. On the way back, lifeguards and their “no dogs” -- or half-wolves -- rules gone, Dief trotted to the end of a lone pier that stood out from a tiny beach.

The pier light's paint was flaked, the housing rusted, the light long since burnt out. The sun had set minutes before, far, far west. Murky water surrounded on three sides, lapping gently, then harder. The twilight breeze sighed and rose into a light wind, then a steady blowing -- not strong by arctic standards, but stretching flags sideways and parting his fur no matter which way he turned. He spun twice, then faced into it, stiff-legged.

By the time Fraser joined him, night flowed westward over them, darkening the water below and the air overhead. Clouds, as they often do, boiled up with the rising night and steady wind. Combined with the city's light pollution, they extinguished what few stars might have peeked through. The sky above them was as black as the water chopping at all three sides of the pier.

They stood, together, thrust out into the dark, rough sky and water, seemingly at the edge of the world.

The wind-borne bite of the winter-to-come soothed.

Title: a huntress

Prompt: Challenge 100 * spin * twitch * stalk * pounce * fall
Word Count: 257
Excerpt: She huddled close to the ground. He thought that she might be hurt. But as he drew quietly nearer, he realized she was stalking something.

She was so well-groomed, so prim... yet flirtatious. Her scent was exotic, unnatural. A ribbon in her hair...

Beside her, he was rough, uncouth, wild. But he knew he could protect her. He could hunt for her. He could provide.

She was utterly wrong for him. But he couldn't resist her hairless areas, her baffling hygiene. She was sleek. Soft. He lay beside her and guarded her.

But one night, restlessly prowling, he caught a new scent on the breeze. The hair on the back of his neck stood up. At the mouth of an alley, he picked up the trail again and followed it carefully, wary of broken glass.

She huddled close to the ground. He thought that she might be hurt. But as he drew quietly nearer, he realized she was stalking something.

Only in this city would rabbits eat garbage.

She crept along silently on her belly, intent. Her leap and pounce were graceful; she fell on the rabbit with her paws, then snatched him up in her jaws.

He accidentally stepped on a plastic spoon, which snapped.

She wheeled and growled, crunching down the rabbit in a few hungry gulps. She was lean. Wild.

A huntress.

You are not wolf, Diefenbaker said, enchanted.

You are? she countered.

I am half wolf, he told her proudly.

I am all coyote, she replied regally.

I know where there are donuts, he said.

Her exquisitely mussed fur ruffled in the night breeze.

What are donuts?

They are much easier to catch than rabbits, Diefenbaker told her.

Title: return the favor/bitter reward
Author: verushka
Fandom: HCL/FTWHTWD
Character/Pairing: Joe Dick/Jerry Bines
Rating: NC-17
Prompt: Challenge 103: * grey * ash * drizzle * bitter * railroad * grand * barren
Word Count: 277
Excerpt: “Sorry,” Jerry murmured, pulling his jeans up from around his knees where they'd been since last night.

They woke to drizzle. He stayed in bed until he couldn't.

“Fuckin' cold,” Joe muttered when Jerry slipped out of bed to piss.

“Sorry,” Jerry murmured, pulling his jeans up from around his knees where they'd been since last night. He stepped into his boots and out to light rain on trees and fallen leaves, grey light behind the clouds.

Jerry had picked him up by the railroad tracks, baseball cap on backwards over his flattened mohawk, ratty wool coat, acoustic guitar at his side, thumb out. Nothing grand. Stranger. Safe.

Back in the semi-dark cabin, Joe lay on his back, now, shirt halfway up his stomach. He snored lightly.

Jerry was used to a barren life. This, he wasn't used to. He stirred the ashes, looked for glowing coals, shoved wood into the stove, hands shaking. The noise woke Joe.

“The fuck?”

“You said it was cold.”

Joe shoved his hand in his jeans, shut his eyes, and curled on his side.

In a few steps Jerry stood at the bedside. Joe half-opened his eyes.

Jerry knelt. “Return the favor?” he asked, voice rough.

Joe wordlessly rolled on his back and shoved his jeans down, already hard.

As he bent his head to the musky cock, Joe cupped his jaw. “Slow,” he muttered. “Wanna watch.”

Jerry slid his mouth slowly, tightly over the head, heard a sharp inhalation.

He felt the oddly tender stare on him throughout the long, thorough blowjob. Their eyes met across quivering stomach as the bitter reward of Joe's come hit the back of Jerry's throat. Barely audible, a bleak whisper escaped Joe.

“Billy...”

Well, whoever you commissioned to draw that icon was really good. Because it does come off as more a pegasus-dog (or dog-angel) than a pegasus. To me, anyway!

I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. I just recently got a dog myself -- who is a total sweetheart -- but I hadn't had a dog since my old dog died in 1994. I just couldn't get excited over another dog that wasn't her, you know? At least not until this ultra-happy black lab of my sister's turned out to be causing my 1 yr old nephew's severe allergies... which is how I wound up with him. It's good to have a dog again. I have cats, and love them to death, too -- but they are not the same.

Yes, Dief wingfic! Hunting down donuts, arrowing down like a hawk to snatch up untended pizza and sandwiches!

*evil grin*

He'd be seated in the station, looking innocent ... but the tip of one wing would streeeetch out to knock a donut off someone's desk. And when he was pleased with himself, instead of his tail wagging, his wings would flutter.

And the right time for him! My sister & her hubby were so heartbroken when they found out my nephew was allergic to Linus (my dog). He's so good with babies & kids & he was great with my nephew. So it was kismet, I guess.

There's a slight problem with my bf... who is allergic to my dog... and wants to cohabitate... but we're in negotiations about that. He's allergic to my cats, too... and I'm not giving them up -- they've been with me longer than the 6 yrs I've been with him -- nor would I give up the dog, just when he found his forever home! But I digress...
