So a while back I was discussing the due South-related "no beta we die like caribou" tag with Ride-4ever. When she first explained it, I'd never heard of it (and was highly amused) because...

yes, I live under a rock )

Yesterday I saw another "no beta we die like..." tag (no beta we die like clone troopers) on a fic (a years-old Longmire fic), and I mused to Ride, "I wonder how many different 'no beta we die like...' tags there are on AO3? I'd like to find out..." and she said something like, "You should post it on DW or as fandom meta on AO3, if you do..."

And, well, here we are. I learned that the parent tag is Not Beta Read, and I had NO IDEA how many child "no beta we die like..." tags there were.

There are ~274 (we could quibble about some quite similar versions) unique-ish "we die like" tags under the "not beta read" parent tag!

ETA: And there are SPOILERS for major and minor character death, obvs!🙂

Follow the cut for a list of every currently existing unique 'no beta we die like' tag on AO3 as of about midnight-ish Chicago time, which will no doubt change rapidly, if it hasn't already, being the moving target that AO3 tags are )

So, yeah: 247(ish) unique "no/not beta we die like" tags! That's hilarious, kooky, and fun... all things I love about fandom. And thank you, Ride-4ever, for suggesting I post this. It cracked me up and distracted me from some looming stresses. (Yes. Change is stressful. Even good changes!)

But I'm looking forward to the WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY because SNOW! Hopefully it won't be like the last much-ballyhooed Winter Weather Advisory in October, which teased us with promises of 6-12" snow... which turned out to be 2-3".

why would anyone actually want that much snow? )

Well, I was looking for something else and stumbled on Esperanza's posts (http://www.livejournal.com/~cesperanza/2005/12/21/) about Brokeback Mountain, which I have seen. So you might want to read her stuff a bit before you read my response.

I felt the need to comment on her posts, because there was such cogent thought -- and outrage -- behind them. But it turned into much more than a comment, and it focused on a lot of things Esperanza never said, just things that have irritated me about the promotion of Brokeback, and the entertainment buzz about it, so here it is...

Trying to make this brief (after 2am...ha! Going for broke!).

I understand the outrage of "is this still where we're at?" -- I actually do. Because, on the brink of 2006, and in Chicago, I'm going, "No, we're not there -- not us in Chicago."

But at the same time, I think that, unfortunately, YES, in many parts of this country, that IS where we're still at: "Hey, should we go beat those two queer cowboys to death with firewood, or should we just go get some beers?" "Nah, let's get some beers first." (spit)
