incestuous TV shows/fandoms
Nov. 23rd, 2007 09:07 pmI had a nice enough Thanksgiving, although my white/dark chocolate swirl cheesecake came out better than my pumpkin pies.
My baby nephew got home the day before Thanksgiving and is apparently fine and feeding well. I'm going to go visit them up in Wisconsin tomorrow some time.
Someone turned in a coatimundi to the Chicago animal control because they could no longer care for it on their own. My question is, where the hell they got it in the first place. When they first showed it on the TV news, I thought it was a lemur...
And (squeeee!) I must admit, I'm more than a little excited and amused to see that tonight's episode of Moonlight had Kathleen Munroe, the beautiful actress who played Natalie on Durham County. Can other Canadian actor guest stars be far off? (um, maybe CKR? Hugh Dillon? pleaseohpleaseohplease??)
I have, of course, followed the careers of those Canadian actors I particularly love, such as CKR or Nigel Bennett, from show to show or movie to movie -- which is how I've come to some fandoms (HCL, BSG for CKR, Lexx for NB) from others (DS for CKR, FK for NB).
But it isn't often that I'm taken by surprise with the sudden appearance of a Canadian actor or actress in a show I was already into before they showed up. Which is what happened tonight on the most recent episode of Moonlight.
Unfortunately, it was a cliff-hanger (argh), and it looks like it is also a holiday hiatus cliff-hanger (double argh!), so I may not find out the end to tonight's bloody confrontation until February or March, which kind of pisses me off. I sure hope CBS doesn't cancel the show in the meantime.
In reviewing my track record of TV shows I've fallen in love with, I've noticed that not only do I have a tendency to fall in love with shows that only last three seasons (3 US seasons) (such as FK and DS). Unfortunately, it seems like shows I get into from the very start of the show are the ones that get cancelled quickly (as occurred with FK and DS and -- most recently -- Veronica Mars)... whereas shows that I don't get into until they've already been on for a while seem to last much longer. This doesn't bode well for Moonlight, which I've been into from the very start! However, given that I didn't watch it on television from the very start (I only watched it as webisodes for the first seven or eight eps) -- perhaps this unfortunate streak of luck with TV shows will not come to pass with Moonlight. I hope!!
ETA:
It was a weird Thanksgiving, since my mother was gone (out of state with my younger sister & her new baby), my stepfather is gone from this earth, and we had it at one of my older sisters' house (the better not to have it somewhere where my stepdad's absence would be even more painfully obvious). But it was probably as good a Thanksgiving as we could expect to have, given all that's happened.
