Sooo... The murder banter between Scott and Kip was kind of perplexing (I personally found it funny, but that's because - like Scott - I read a lot of murder books, so I know Scott was factually correct about everything he said)
I can't decide if
1) Jacob Tierney was referencing Toronto serial killer Bruce McArthur who targeted gay, often immigrant men... And who, despite the disappearing men who were never heard from or seen again, did not particularly engender much sympathy or effort from Toronto police... In fact, they had him and interviewed him and they let him go... And he continued to murder and dismember gay men until a second task force finally fucking caught him
2) Jacob Tierney was subtly referencing the way many gay men have been preyed on by serial killers (Gacy... Dahmer... McArthur...) and police departments have largely ignored, blown off, and minimized the concerned family and friends of the missing men until, you know, their bodies turned up in crawlspaces, dismembered in freezers/refrigerators, and dismembered in flower planters, because law enforcement - another hyper masculine and homophobic culture - just didn't/doesn't fucking care about the LGBTQ+ community, which means simply being LGBTQ+ puts you at higher risk of never having your murder investigated or solved (and FYI as police department budgets have increased over time, their solve rates for murders have actually dropped... Fact, look it up)
Or
3) Jacob Tierney is fucking with us and wants someone to write Scott/Kip as hockey playing/hockey adjacent avenging murder husbands like Hannibal and Will Graham

Genuinely curious about this, though. The murder banter is not in the Game Changer novel, so... what was the motivation for that?
Wish I could ask Jacob Tierney directly, somehow. If anyone has, in any interview(s), I'd love links if you got 'em!
