Canadian Tire to sell Hudson's Bay blankets; proceeds go to Indigenous fund (Fannish Fifty #49)

According to this CBC story, "Canadian Tire acquired HBC's intellectual property, including the striped blanket design, earlier this year..."

"Canadian Tire will begin selling the iconic Hudson's Bay point blankets and has pledged to continue a program started by HBC to donate the net proceeds to support Indigenous-led initiatives.

"Under an expanded partnership between Canadian Tire and the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund, the retailer has guaranteed at least $1 million a year to support Oshki Wupoowane, The Blanket Fund.The money will be used for grants that support grassroots Indigenous organizations and one-time cultural, artistic and educational projects."

Full article here. I wonder if they would ship to the US... Though I've heard that the newer Hudson's Bay blankets aren't as good as the old ones, I don't know that for a fact... would like the opportunity to find out, though.

I too am gonna post this as one of my Fannish Fifties (and with giving you credit for having posted it first). BTW, I see here that you are just one post away from making 50 on your Fannish Fifties -- yays for you about to make 50 for the year (I'm still in the mid-30s, but intending to make 50 by the end of the year).

I have a vintage HBC blanket jacket that was a gift to me years ago, plus I have stuff that I bought at HBC during my various times in Toronto.

I wouldn't mind having a vintage HBC blanket. I had an ex decades ago who had a couple of them (at his family's cabin in McGregor Bay, north shore of Lake Huron, in Ontario, Canada). They were nice and warm - and allowed you to keep the house cooler, but still be warm and snug in bed!
