Hugh Dillon on Degrassi Next Gen!

My step-dad's in the hospital. Again. I took him to two doctor appointments recently, one this past Tuesday, and one last week. I have to take him to them because my mom just isn't strong enough to go with him and do all the walking from place to place (parking lot to hospital to elevators etc.). They think it's a GI bleed. They're not sure. Or could be his prostate. Sigh.
I was channel surfing last night while procrastinating studying nursing care of people on mechanical ventilation. And I ran across the first Degrassi: the Next Generation ep with Hugh Dillon ("When Doves Cry") ! It was shown in one long episode (one hour). Hugh was fucking scary in this ep. I love Hugh, but I didn't like his character in this ep. Actually (sadly), he reminded me of my own father way back when. Rage and love so intermingled, you never know what to expect.
I'm interested to see if his character becomes "kinder and gentler" in the episode "Tears Are Not Enough." It's going to be shown in both parts (one hour) on Mon. 7/24/06 from 9-10pm Central (Daylight Savings) Time (see http://www.the-n.com/ntv/schedule.php?pv_date=07%2F24%2F2006&ipv_timeZone=2 )
Tears Are Not Enough Part 1 will be shown (alone, 1/2 hour) at 1:30am Central on Thurs. 7/20/06 (see http://www.the-n.com/ntv/schedule.php?ipv_timeZone=2&pv_date=07/18/2006 )
Their schedule stops (so far) at 7/27/06, so I couldn't look beyond that.

Date: 2006-07-16 08:12 pm (UTC)I just want to know if it ends badly with someone getting killed or injured violently. Because if it does, then I probably won't watch it.
Sadly it wasn't funny to me. Now, I'm not normally inclined to become emotionally invested in the guest part of an actor I really like on a show I've never watched before and would normally never watch at all.
But as I watched Hugh's D:NG eps, I became more emotionally invested because Hugh's psycho-abusive-professional-dad was a lot like my father and how he treated my brother in front of my sisters and I. (And sometimes how he treated us.)
It was frightening to see the carving knife scenes, no matter how campy it may have seemed to others. Unfortunately, a carving knife (during Sunday dinner, and while carving a roast, no lie) featured prominently in the last time my father abused my brother - in front of us - the day my brother left for good at age 17. Seeing Hugh doing that in D:NG just brought it all back for me. I'm not even sure I'll watch the next Hugh eps of D:NG. Because if it ends badly, then I don't think I want to see it. It's not really worth it to me.
Also the joy of Hugh's chest hair (http://pics.livejournal.com/jcjoeyfreak/gallery/0001p04f?page=5&.view=grid) peeking through his shirt (http://pics.livejournal.com/jcjoeyfreak/gallery/0001p04f?page=6&.view=grid) in the many screen caps by jcjoeyfreak (http://jcjoeyfreak.livejournal.com/) was almost entirely ruined for me by watching the actual episode.
I wish to hell Hugh would get cast as something other than killer, psycho, insane game show host... Like romantic lead, occasionally!? I mean, heck, Down To The Bone, casting people?! Hello! If Hugh Jackman can get parts like he did in Kate & Leopold and Someone Like You, why can't Hugh get parts like that in flicks like that? Sure, they may be ultimately forgettable chick flicks... But dammit, I want some non-psycho, non-murderer, non-rapist cute-Hugh romantic lead roles already. So I can hopefully see a lot more of his flesh and drool joyfully, and I don't have to keep drooling over bad-boy/psycho Hugh parts, no matter how handsome he looks in them.
And the new bald Hugh look? I miss the hair... and prefer him with it. Nice head, though. Symmetrical.
Ok, sorry... uh, that turned into an unintended mini-rant. So, uh, rant over, now... my apologies...

Date: 2006-07-16 08:49 pm (UTC)You definitely do NOT want to watch the rest of the Hugh arc in this case. In the 2nd ep I think he freaks out on Craig and Craig runs away and ends up going to live with Joey. Crazy Dad comes back in the season finale, where he tries to make up with his son and is then killed in, I think, a car accident. (You see I haven't watched that either.)
My grandfather had a carving knife like taht and it was SO bizarre to watch Hugh with something like that. I am very sad it brought up bad memories for you!
The new movie he's doing with Bruce ought to be a non-psycho-killer type, at least - I think he plays the gay filmmaking boyfriend of one of th emovie's main characters.
the hair, the new movie
Date: 2006-07-24 04:22 pm (UTC)I'm looking forward to Gay Like Me. Since Michael Madsen's in it, at least there's hope for a wide release in theaters. I hope. ('Course, Madsen was in Bloodrayne... what a STUPID movie. I couldn't believe Ben Kingsley and Geraldine Chaplin -- respected thespians! -- were in it! so awful. Good video game, though.)\
Well, I guess I will skip the next 2 D:NG Hugh eps. Or maybe watch with the sound off while I'm studying. Thanks for the headsup...
