Might sounds stupid, but sometimes I can't write stories when I'm in a word processor. So I go into email and compose an email to myself. Usually it's just a scene. Something that a story needs and I can't get done in the word processor because I'm blocked. Sometimes it's under 300 words. But sometimes it's an entire story.
Sometimes Gmail pisses me off because it's standard HTML loads slowly on my stupid DSL and so I use the basic html version of Gmail.
Which doesn't have Autosaving of Draft emails.
So now I just lost an almost complete Mike Sweeney/Ray Kowalski DC/DS xover story (with Fraser voyeur) that was probably about -- well, I don't know. The last time I timed myself, I typed about 65 words a minute (with no mistakes) or 70 wpm (with 5 or more mistakes). 65 words per minute x 60 minutes in an hour x I started writing it to myself around 3:30pm and my browser crapped out thanks to my shitty DSL around 7:30pm. I don't even want to do the math. Obviously, some of that time was spent thinking, not typing, since I'm not just typing what someone else is telling me, I was *writing* the story. But now I have -- NOTHING.
Because I was using the Gmail basic html with no Autosave.
If I could facepalm my face onto the palm of, I dunno, a Mt. Rushmore figure or the palm of the Statue of Liberty, I'd be doing that right now, because that's how dumb I feel. Now I have to reconstruct it all. *whimpers* And parts of it were -- if I do say so myself -- hot, and I'm afraid in the reconstruction the heat will be lost.
Fuck.

Date: 2009-09-23 01:27 am (UTC)I doubt you'll lose the heat in the reconstruction - you're pretty good at bringing on the heat. It just sucks to start over.
And maybe you need to look into options that include autosave...

Date: 2009-09-23 04:33 pm (UTC)Oh, I am very sorry! I have had things like this happen before, and it is frustrating beyond WORDS. I give you many hugs!
Also, I cheerlead VERY MUCH this Mike/Ray writing and hope that you will decide to continue it! :D?

Date: 2009-09-23 10:06 pm (UTC)However, it's turned into a Mike/Ray bondage kink story with Fraser as voyeur, for some strange reason. (IDEK why my mind goes where it goes...) With a lot of Fraser angst. Um.
Does this sound like it will fulfill your DC/DS Mike/Ray kink request? Otherwise I will have to finish this and then write another Mike/Ray kink for you, hopefully less complicated by plot. (Why, brain, why? why can't I just write simple smut? it's like, either 300 words or 20,000...)
Not that that's, like, any major hardship or anything. I'm just sayin'. I figured I better check with you now while I'm about halfway through...
