I got the job!!

I am going to be an ER nurse! (and, strangely, ER was one of the shows I was least likely to watch in the 90s... go figure. It was only really worth it for me when George Clooney was on...)
In the afternoon after my interview on Tuesday 8/7, while I was using my mom's DSL to type up and send via email the obligatory "Thank you for the opportunity to interview. . ." letters -- they called my home answering machine and left a message saying they want to "bring [me] on board."
I'm so excited! My girlfriend E--- is already working there, and so is M----. E--- is feeling very overwhelmed (and I'm sure I will too) -- she does not have a healthcare background like M----, and neither do I. But I'm really excited because it's supposedly the busiest ER in the state of Illinois. (I found that hard to believe when they told me, but, hey, maybe it's true: 16,000 EMS visits per year is pretty high, and that's not counting the people who come to the ER by private vehicle.)
So we'll see how it goes. I have to go Monday for the physical (read: drug test) (which I should pass with flying colors, as the last time I indulged was... I don't remember. The winter? I think. It must not have been very memorable, I guess.) Then I have to go back Wednesday to have them read the TB test they'll give me Monday.
Benefits start in 30 days (YEAH!!!! I will have insurance again! It's BC/BS -- choice of PPO or HMO, and I had the HMO before and NEVER AGAIN, man. PPO from now on, dammit.) 401K, 403b, Vision care (good, cuz I have glasses & I think I need bifocals), dental PPO (good cuz I need at least a couple fillings). And supposedly fitness facilities (although I'm sure they aren't that great; hospital "fitness centers" are almost NEVER like actual health clubs or gyms.)
Lastly, the starting wage is $24/hour, as I thought -- but in September goes up to $25/hour. I'll be working 7pm-7am 3 days a week. From 7pm - 11pm, I'll get the base $24/hour plus $2/hour extra shift differential. From 11pm - 7:30am I'll get the base $24/hour plus $3/hour shift differential. And on holidays and weekends (we must work every third weekend), I'll get base $24/hour plus $5/hour extra differential.
Looks like the going-back-to-school-on-the-"wrong"-side-of-35 has paid off. Finally.
Now, if I could just figure out why my bf & I have been fighting so much... & whether we're going to make it... sigh. But then, I think it has to do with the fact that his job is slowing down (mortgage broker) because the bottom is dropping out, & he's growing poorer... while I'm about to start making a lot more money.
Or maybe it's just we're tired of each other. But then we fight, & we make up. & we have great make-up sex. So then we're okay... for a few more weeks. Oh well.
