Veronica Mars movie!
Mar. 17th, 2014 10:11 pmSaw the Veronica Mars movie over the weekend on the BIG screen! (also got my Ultraviolet version, after some snafus).
First take: Loved it! Nostalgia aside, a return to form, well done.
After thought and discusssion (SPOILERS):
(a) Veronica/Logan FTW!, and
(b) Piz was utterly unnecessary. That's actually not an opinion; it's factual -- analyzed from a purely narrative standpoint, Piz was superfluous. Had he been left out of the story, it would not have changed anything. That's the sign of a totally unnecessary character.
Some things I would have liked, weren't present. Some things I could have lived without, were included.
But the return of our beloved girl PI Veronica Mars (and other regular characters) and the return to Neptune, CA (even more "ground zero in the class war," now), was up there with the best episodes of the series -- and with an even darker edge.
Caveat: Why go for a PG-13 rating? The movie could have been "the HBO version" of Veronica Mars -- because Veronica Mars was very noir, very often. I don't get it. Here's hoping for R-rated deleted scenes and extras on the DVD...
