Winblows (my laptop is f***ed up)
Jan. 14th, 2010 08:23 pmSo I haven't had net access via laptop for a week because, strangely, installing DragonNaturally 10 made my laptop "forget" that it had either broadband or wifi cards in it. I've tried for like 6 days to re-install the drivers for both cards. Winblows won't let me. Gives me an error about the Winblows installer program.
IN NEARLY FIVE YEARS MY MAC MINI FROM 2005 HAS NEVER BEEN INACCESSIBLE AND UNUSABLE. I know Apple is a big, mean corporation as craptastic as Microsoft these days, but DAMN IT I HATE WINBLOWS and nothing ever happens to my Mac, mainly because the Mac OS X is actually BSD Linux.
But! I recently learned you can RUN Linux from a USB drive on ANY laptop, netbook, or notebook WITH system persistence (i.e. you can SAVE YOUR CHANGES, your work, your docs, your desktop theme, etc.) You still have a Winblows laptop, but as soon it boots off your USB drive, you're not *using* Winblows... you're using Linux. *happy dance*
I was always afraid to Hackintosh or install Linux on any computer because everyone I knew installed Linux as a dual boot system, the 2nd of 2 systems. You have to create a new hard drive partition, then install Linux on the new partition, then set up the PC for dual booting... It all seemed very intimidating, since I haven't done IT support since 2003. (Thank god. *shudder*)
But now they have some noob Linux distros available to install and run from a USB, with all kinds of friendly names: Puppy Linux (puppy! I mean, how unthreatening is that? *puppy* Linux! I think I'll try this one first!), Easy Peasy 1.5 Linux, Damn Small Linux...

Oh yes, I'll explore these possibilities. (Puppy Linux! How can you not!) Yes. Winblows shall thwart me no more!
