I'm pinch hitting for dSSS. I have a fabulous, wonderful beta, but I suppose I should have a third pair of eyes look over a story (with nothing squicky) that I'll be submitting for the 12/24 pinch-hitters' deadline. Anyone not participating in dSSS who's interested, let me know! verushka70 at gmail dot com TYK!
In other news, I probably shouldn't -- all the dog behavioral books I've read (okay, one so far at present; but years ago, with my old dog, Riffraff, I read a few) say that you shouldn't in order to maintain your position as pack leader, and lord knows that people with truly working dogs don't do this (like hunters, trackers, etc.)...
But unless I'm over at my bf's house, all my 3 cats (Kailin, Kako, and Nikita) and my black lab Linus wind up sleeping in my bed with me.
( boring but not TMI details follow )
But this morning, before the dog woke me up to go out (I should say, the second time the dog woke me up to go out), I was dreaming this wonderful dream (well, it was wonderful to me, in the dream) about being in bed with a small pack of wolves which included my dog Linus. There was an alpha female and younger, adolescent male, and my dog Linus (the cats were mysteriously -- or maybe not so mysteriously -- gone) and we were all laying in a heap, mainly with me on the bottom, snoozing away. It was warm and cozy and when they started to stir, it was all lazy yawning and rolling on their backs with their legs in the air and kicking and that woke me up and I started scratching their bellies and they all had those wide open, tongue-lolling, happy-dog grins, including my dog. I remember being a little hesitant to rub the alpha female's belly, because I wasn't sure how she would take it -- rolling on their backs and exposing their bellies is considered, in wolf and dog behavior, a submissive act, acknowledging the higher pack position of the person/canine the belly is exposed to. But she loved it.
I don't know who was really the alpha -- I like to think I was the alpha, but it was pretty clear this alpha female had higher status than my dog Linus did; he was just below her (don't ask how I know this; I just knew it, like you just do, in dreams); and the other adolescent male was below him, at the bottom of the heirarchy. But there wasn't any discord, it was just like we were all a pack of wolves (I mean, except Linus was still himself: a black Lab) who had been sleeping together, and all woke up to the day together, comfy and cozy and warm and happy.
It was just a really nice dream to start the day with, as opposed to some of the unpleasant or just plain weird dreams I've woken from the past few days or weeks. ( example of weird dream from the other day )
