Durham County: Hugh song & vid snippets
Jun. 19th, 2007 12:59 amI'm seriously bummed that Durham County is over. And yet I was thoroughly absorbed by every one of its six eps (as well as quite disturbed at times). And, omg, rewatching is killer, too. So, aside from the fact that, uh, my Hugh addiction has been as enabled as is possible for an American who can't watch the vast majority of his stuff within these crappy borders... I've tried to give back as well.
( read this to get video clips and Hugh's DC song as mp3 )
And in rewatching these 6 eps, I'm struck so hard at the complexities of living and loving in the shadow of cancer... the mixed emotions with which one greets the visible (in your face) mortality of loved ones, the fucked-up shit we do to cope with what feels impossible to cope with. Maybe I wouldn't have gotten so sucked into these characters if I weren't dealing with the same thing with my mom, but I doubt it. And the (BIG SPOILER!!) infidelity-that-wasn't-technically-but-definitely-was-emotionally between Ms. Lacroix and Mike Sweeney (Hugh) end spoiler -- the angsty possibilities there beg to be fic-ed, even if it is gen. It's got such fantastic sensual possibilities, given the two characters' personal situations.
*slaps wrist* *smacks forehead*
Of course I won't. Yet. Must finish the Joe/Jerry Bines HCL/FTWHTWD story behemoth first. It's dogging me but I think I've found a way through. (Yet -- dare I say it? -- the plot bunny that hopped into my head re: Sweeney & Ms. Lacroix may prove, more than anything, that I am not so much a slasher as I am an angst-er.) And, hey, in the end, didn't it seem like (DC SPOILER!!) Ray had a way competitive, way-more-than-brotherly unconsummated gay love for Mike? Or was that just me being my weird self? end DC spoiler
