omfg, I'm in heaven! I got Daniel Craig in The Mother from a local library (for FREE!) and my local mom&pop video store ALSO had Hugh Dillon in Down To The Bone! I've had The Mother for a few days and watched it three times.
I've seen Down To The Bone on the "big screen" (OK, it was a small film center screen, but way bigger than the biggest big screen TV I've ever seen!), but I'm so happy & excited to have rented it. I haven't watched the DVD yet, but I'm going to after I post this. Hugh Dillon! Showing us his tattooed shoulders while in bed with Vera Farmiga (who was really good in The Departed, too). Damn, I just had sex with my bf last night (it's his birthday), but I am hot for Hugh's sexy, stoned performance. I don't even know if there are special features on the DVD, I just saw it & grabbed it because it was in! (Last week, they had the case, but the movie was out!)
OK, I see why some people said "The Mother" was absorbing & disturbing. But, whoa, Daniel Craig. Until his character turns out to be kind of a jerk in one of the last scenes with him & the widowed mom, he's panty-twisting hot in the sex scenes! In the first sex scene between him & the widow: "Do you want to touch me?" he says quietly. "Yes," she replies, and asks, "Do you want to touch me?" "If you'll let me," he says softly. Squeeee! First they're in bed and you can't see anything because they're both under the covers, but he's obviously using his hand on her and bringing her off, which is frakkin' hot. Later in another scene he talks her through a mind-blowing orgasm while doing her from behind, whispering, "Come on, come on, that's it, that's it, come on, there you go, there you go..." Frak! Super-squee!... It's just thigh-clenchingly good.
I can't wait to get the DVD "Love Is The Devil" about the gay relationship between Francis Bacon and the bungling burglar who tried to rob him (played by Daniel Craig). But, people: you must see The Mother. If you're over 35 or 40, and you know how much longer the female lifespan is than the male lifespan, and it ever occurs to you that even if you are married, you'll probably wind up alone in old age... see The Mother. It's about the awakening of a woman who wasn't allowed the freedoms we all take for granted now... probably someone who shouldn't have been a wife and mother, but was because there weren't any other options. And when she finally breaks out of all that... no one can really deal with it, because they need to put her back into that safe, harmless, helpless box.
And I realized something: the reason why it's so shocking and disturbing to see a 60-something woman getting it on with a 30-something guy is because WE NEVER EVER SEE SUCH THINGS IN MOVIES OR ON TV. But we see 60- and 70-something men get it on with women who are 30+ years younger than them ALL THE TIME... so that's "normal" and there's nothing disturbing about that.
And as Charlie Brown used to say, AAAAAUUUUGGGGHHHHHHH! WHAT were those bastards at SciFi thinking when they left this mid-season cliffhanger going on BSG!?! I wanna kill 'em! Jesus. As if the whole outta-left-field Starbuck & Lee cheating thing wasn't a total freakout, now the Cylons are as close to finding Earth as the humans, and Admiral Adama is about to nuke the temple with the Eye of Jupiter Earth info (and his best pilot and his son!) just so the Cylons won't get it!? And I don't get the second "To Be Continued" part UNTIL JANUARY 21ST?!?!
And Callum's part was way, WAY too short this episode. But, you know, I'm glad CKR was in it at all. Because the few episodes I first saw with him playing Leoben turned me on to the series, and I'm totally into it now. My sister is too bummed out with how dark BSG became this season -- she hated BTVS season 6 and 7, too -- but I'm totally hooked.
I wish Unnatural & Accidental would get to Chicago. Or Snow Cake. Or SOMETHING with CKR. Damn. I'll have to go watch the episode of Bliss he's in.
Oh, bright idea: I think I'll rip the DVD of Down To The Bone to my hard drive. And possibly The Mother too. So I can put the clips of Hugh Dillon & Daniel Craig out there... if they aren't already. And what about the Trailer Park Boys movie? That never even got distributed here. I wish I lived closer to the Canadian border. At least there's no chance they'll try to build a wall on THAT border!
I got a nice email the other day from someone who just discovered my Fraser/Kowalski BDSM story series via the first story & wanted the links to the rest of them. That got me reading them again. While sometimes I re-read my stories only to find quite cringe-worthy stuff in them, sometimes part of my mind does sit back more objectively and go, Hey, this is pretty good or (much less objectively) This is frakkin' hot! Was I on a roll here! I think I feel about equal parts cringe-worthiness and hey, this is hot with the whole series. But re-reading got me thinking, thinking got me ruminating and plotting, and ruminating and plotting has gotten me a bit farther along the road to a story to finally resolve Fraser's problems with being dominant, at least as resolved as they ever could be with Fraser being Fraser. I had a device (literally & figuratively, as in "plot device") in mind before, but I have a bit more of a skeleton to hang the story, conflict & resolution on now. I think.
So, if I ever get a chance between trying to clean my pigsty of an apartment with an entire semester's worth of filth in it, nursing my mother through this horrible flu she got the last few weeks (and while she's still going through radiation, though only for 2 more sessions), and fixing food for both her & my step-dad to eat b/c neither of them feels like cooking or eating the damn Meals-On-Wheels hot meal they get each day -- not to mention upcoming xmas, unfinished xmas shopping, etc. -- I think I will try to write it over this xmas break.
Sometimes I have to think about a story and the characters for a long time -- weeks or months -- before it starts to come together in my mind enough to compel me to sit down & write.
And I still want to write the Joe Dick/Jerry Bines (HCL/FTWHTWD xover) I've had in mind all this time. Maybe, just maybe, I'll get to that. Sigh.

Date: 2006-12-24 05:28 pm (UTC)Probably because it is so Fraser! I read a story after I wrote this post, but so aptly describes Fraser from a psych perspective. I don't normally rec much (if at all), but it was too good not to rec: it's Speranza's "Eight Sessions." (Incidentally, I sent fb... to the wrong person! there's a Victor Speranza on LJ, and somehow I sent it to him instead of the DS Speranza...!)
Anyway, it's at

When you get to the end, you'll see what I mean... regarding
