So I got my DVD of Verdi's opera Don Carlos from the 1996 performance at the Theatre Chatelet two days ago, but I didn't watch it until last night because it's like 215 minutes. Anyway, that's not the point.
The point is I finally watched my Don Carlos DVD last night. And, OHHH was it slashy! Oh. My. God. The slash!! There's a lot of Rodrigue and Don Carlos clutching each other's clothes... clutching each *other*... holding hands... and even Rodrigue *kneeling* before Don Carlos, pledging his love and friendship.
Plus Don Carlos' leather boots.
I don't think you need subtitles to enjoy the slash. But if you need to know what's going on, there's a brief synopsis below.*
Here's their slashy duet from Act II.
The slash begins at about 2:28:
The rest of their duet is here:
Oh! If I have time tomorrow (gotta work today) I'll picspam more Don Carlos opera slash!
Are these not hot, beautiful men?? Clutching and clinging slashily? Ok, fine, it could be in a "European" way... but I'm viewing thru slash-colored lenses... and it looks mighty fine!
*In a nutshell, Don Carlos is lovesick and heartbroken because his beloved Elisabeth, promised to him, was instead taken as bride by his father King Philip in order to broker a peace with France. Rodrigue comes to comfort him, pledge his undying friendship and love, and whisk him away to Flanders where the people are suffering terribly.
