No, no. This will sound weird (perhaps) but I'm transporting a kayak for one of my older sisters who is into that sort of thing and spends 3 weeks every August in BC or the Pacific Northwest, and has used up all her vacation days, and apparently the cost of shipping is prohibitive. (Like, the cost of another kayak). After all the stress and deaths in my family in the last 4 years, I really, really, REALLY needed a REAL vacation (5 days in southern Illinois after Labor Day just didn't cut it; my last vacation longer than that was 1 week in Amsterdam in 2004, and before that was 2 weeks in S. Dakota in 2002 and 3 weeks in Greece in 2002. I used to work for a state university and got 24 paid vacay days a year...). So I volunteered to transport the kayak. So I drove from Chicago to Issaquah WA and dropped off the kayak today. Then I will bring another kayak back to Chicago from Issaquah... after I get done hanging out on the Olympic peninsula for a few days.
It's been very exciting and also very... freeing. Just me and my dog. And the open road. And lots and lots of mountains I'd never seen before -- let alone driven through.
But, that's why I haven't done any writing. :( I'm so tired at the end of every day from driving for hours from city to city. I went Chicago to Rochester MN to Sioux City SD to Mitchell SD to Buffalo WY to Riverton WY (then Grand Tetons Nat'l Park) to Jackson WY (then Yellowstone Nat'l Park) to Butte MT to Coeur D'Alene ID to Issaquah WA where I am now. Of those stays, I stayed one night in each place except I stayed 2 nights in Coeur D'Alene and I'm staying 2 nights in Issaquah... so it's pretty head-whirling to change cities that much.
But I can see how it might appear that I'm on the run. :D I wish I could say that I was -- that would sound even more exciting -- but I'm not that exciting a person... which is probably a good thing. :)
