And what an insightful comment -- very true about Jerry in the FTWHTWD context, and the authenticity (or lack thereof, I guess) of Joe's side of the exchange in this story. I've never quite articulated Jerry in FTWHTWD that way to myself, but you're spot-on with that. In many ways, FTWHTWD is a portrait of a not-bad, not-scary guy who's been branded bad and scary because of bad decisions and bad associates... and who will forever be marginalized by the community because they fear and hate him.
