In which I talk too much. /o\
Date: 2014-12-20 05:43 am (UTC)In all truth, I think there's a market for both Autotunes and non-Autotunes musicians. Unfortch, the formers do end up getting played all over the place. One of the few (non-Autotunes) singer I do feel will have a long career is Janelle Monae. She's very original and a hard worker. Her live show will blow anyone's mind.
Oh, Christmas/holiday music is definitely grr-inducing! Thankfully, I only get to listen to it when I go to Walgreen's or a big department store. I'm not a fan of that genre.
My Netflix queue is filled with all kinds of shows. I did tried to watch Top of the Lake but it never quite pinged me. The Fall, however, was AWESOME. I'm kinda trying to be super!patient as I wait for S2 to finish airing so that it can get there. Hee!
TVD still pulls rather impressive ratings for a CW show. Like, steadily so--which is why I think it will get a 7th (possibly final?) season? About the only shows that pull those numbers are Arrow and The Flash. I kinda wanted to get into The Originals but that oomph fizzled when S2 began.
I've got a really vague idea about Archer. Have seen enough fanart/memes to feel curious about it, at least. ;) *makes a mental note to add it to the queue*
Re: Elementary
I can understand why TPTB would want to throw obstacles in the Sherlock & Joan partnership. Considering that the show's creator has gone on record to being totally opposed to pairing them in a romantic way, messing their partnership/friendship would be the next step. FWIW, I did like the Irene/Moriarty story arc (probably because I was watching the show live in S1). Have sort of obliquely ended up shipping one-sided!Irene/Joan (which, I like to think would mess Sherlock up really good). Mycroft was cool as Sherlock's foil. Pairing him romantically with Joan, however, was a GIANT misstep. I guess TPTB wanted to throw in a tangible reason why Sherlock and Mycroft would be at odds...only, it wasn't necessary. Sometimes siblings really never get along, you know?
Lucy Liu isn't preggers. FWIW, I follow her, Johnny, and the Elementary Writers on twitter. Plus, Lucy is a big enough star that her pregnancy would be talked about all over the place. I wonder where did Grey hear that Lucy was expecting?
I do remember reading that EW bit (about the Joan-and-Sherlock-as-Kitty's-symbolic-parents) but don't buy it at all. I think part of what I find great about Kitty is that she's shown why Sherlock would be interested in mentoring her. I mean, aside of his initial impulse to help her fix herself. She's pretty smart, she's no ingenue, and she's well-aware of potential/future benefits from her association with Sherlock. I also liked how TPTB got her into forging a friendship with Joan (instead of making her a rival). I do suspect that, because I like her, she's bound to become part of a nasty twist further ahead in the season. I mean, she could be a Moriarty plant or something equally sinister, you know?
There IS a lot of telling instead of showing. But then, I'm choosing to trust that TPTB know what they're doing? Like, maybe we will eventually get to see how Sherlock and Kitty met?
Also, funnily enough, I never liked the Conan Doyle books. I think I read A Scandal in Bohemia and the Hound of Basketvilles (sp?) BBC's Sherlock was a no-go for me and the RDJ movies are OK as popcorn flicks. Which is why I was so surprised at how much Elementary pinged me.
My one hope for this season is that TPTB learned from S2's mistakes and have a story arc that's more focused on the Joan-Sherlock partnership for S3.
Sherlock/Marcus happened really by accident. I never shipped Sherlock/Joan (though I did like to think that they were in a non-sexual sub!Sherlock & top!Joan partnership. The show fueled this idea by having Sherlock constantly do gen service!kink stuff like bringing Joan breakfast in bed, pull out clothes for her, etc.)
Anyhoo, if I'm not mistaken, there was one scene in S1 in which Sherlock commented on Marcus' attractiveness? And I kinda went O_O and started to subtly ship them. The pairing got really angsty for me with S2's Sherlock-shoots-Marcus story arc. Still, there's a scene in which Sherlock invites Marcus to dinner and I was like 'yay, my ship is happy again!'. Of course, it was around that time that Mycroft showed up and everything got bollocksed up. :|
FWIW, I don't read much (if any) fic in the Elementary fandom. Sherlock's personality is very hard to pin down, imho, so (a lot of times) the fics tend to have some OTT or pastiche version of Sherlock that I find repellent.
I think that the actor who plays Alfredo is (or was) in a show called Ripper. He's part of the main cast so he exited Elementary. I keep hoping, however, that he returns to the show because he brought a really cool vibe.
It is an universal truth that I'll watch nearly anything Eva Green does. S1 of Penny Dreadful was delicious. I can't wait for S2 either.
Oh, before I forget, there's this 96k True Detective WIP I'm reading that I think you might like? It's Rust/Marty, post-show. Not as angsty as expected. Mostly about their lives together. I feel that the author got their characterizations down. Normally, I wouldn't rec a WIP *but* the author is slowly updating it (last update was about a month ago?):

The first night Marty gets Rust home and put to bed he whimpers like an old hound dog in his sleep, making these ripped-raw noises that well and gurgle up past his lips like fresh blood from the hole in his gut all over again. Doesn’t know he’s doing it, course not, but Marty lays there next to him in the dark—the man’s only got one bed, ain’t no shame in that—and has to wonder about the Vietnam-grade shit Rust’s got playing in living technicolor in his head.
